Familiar walls beckon me home
To a place I’ve always known
Kept us safe from fear and doubt
Hid from view a world without
Pain and suffering to bring us down
Chose instead to live away from town
Hills and valleys beckon me home
To a place I’ve always called my own
Dogwoods and azaleas take me back
To a Georgia lake where sailboats tacked
The Intercoastal Waterway to my west
Yachts and sailors having left the nest
Sunsets touch each blade of grass
On Georgia marshes like filtered glass
Morning dove hug the coast
And journey to places southernmost
Red clay defines a way of life
For people not immune to strife
Lay me to rest upon this soil
Where a life is defined by toil
Return me to the place I miss
Where once I stole your heavenly kiss
Time to rest and live again
Among the wildflowers in the glen
