Sorry fails to express
A wounded heart distressed
From years of neglect and abuse
When either could elect a truce
Forgive me once again
For demanding I must win

Love is not a game
Played before hearts untamed
Sweet words should prevail
If we are to weather travails
Permit me to indulge
What we dare not divulge

Help me understand
To ask instead of demand
To listen instead of talk
To acquiesce instead of balk
To comfort instead of hurt
To love instead of pervert

Love could be simple
If we choose not to stifle
Words spoken in truth
Not to malign but instead soothe
Two hearts torn apart
Hoping for another start

Hopeful hearts is a poem of encouragment because it shows a knowledge the essential laundry list for making a go of it. I'd guess the waves will be smaller, the wind calmer in the future. Good poem. Henry

I could have written this poem. Well, I couldn't have written it as well, but let's just say I relate. Sometimes, after all the years of fussing and fighting, people, like me and mine, just settle into a wary cold-war truce. LOL And, hell, that ain't bad.
