Flags unite and divide
Proclaim a peoples’ pride
Goosebumps over a body chilled
When my heart is proud and filled
Old Glory with all her stars and stripes
My favorite colors—red, blue, and white
But other flags have their colors
Bring pride to many others
Some friends, some our foes
Love their country, their hearts aglow
Sing their songs with hope and glee
Their country tis of thee
Ironic men carry flags into war
Even when our soldiers’ blood pours
Over sacred ground too small for two
Armies commanded to plunder and subdue
Colored cloth atop a staff
Becomes our final epitaph
What would happen with just one flag?
Then no one country would have to brag
An ecumenical world founded on grace
Freely given to the human race
Governments and religions co-exist
So no one ever again enlists
