Four-thirty a.m. and we’re off with our balloon
Above us is a sliver of moon
We pick up our chaser at the stop n go
Our captain talks like a pro
We arrive at our destination
Eager to soar with anticipation
We start the fans to fill the balloon
The air still cool in the month of June
Propane tanks fill the abyss
The captain sedate and fearless
The moment arrives as we jump in the basket
Somewhat scared I try not to fidget
Suddenly the basket touches air
The captain pulls the burners that flare
We ascend above the desert floor
Observe mule deer, jackrabbits, and boar
Our shadow leads the way
On this gorgeous Sedona day
We cross 89A before our descent
The ground closes in without a dent
Basket and earth meet again
Our pilot displays such acumen
Dawn over Sedona experienced from above
We soar like the wind enveloped in love
