Grandchildren should be a national treasure
A gift from above beyond measure
Memories relived years ago
When our children were on the go
Bottles, diapers, and baby food
Laughter and cries defined mood

Life cycles clearer the second time
When life feels more sublime
Although we parent less now
We still remember how
A tickle, a kiss, or a coo
Fills our hearts with life anew

We are heroes again
And for that I say amen
Aging softens the heart
And gives one another start
To love freely without regret
No anxiety, uncertainty, or fret

I love being a grandparent
A gift that’s most apparent
To one older and wiser now
Without grimace or furrowed brow
Thank you Lord for a second chance
To prove that I still can dance
