Seagull...

Seagulls, birds of grace and beauty...why do they suddenly fly off, and where do they sleep?

Poem Artwork

 Seagull...

Seagull perched upon the roof

your grace and beauty so aloof

your stillness backed by moving cloud

your profile self assured and proud,

I wonder why you stand and stay

then all at once just fly away...

What image in your regal head

provokes you to take flight

to soar on high, play on the air

outfly the nearest Kite...

To be a Seagull must be fun

to fly the skies warm in the Sun...

and when the day is at an end

you lay your head to rest,

upon calm seas just floating by

your safe and watery nest.

Wonderful poem. You captured them very well. I like seagulls. I was at the ocean and saw two pilings with a seagull on each piling. Between the pilings was a row boat. I took a picture and went home and pulled out my oil paints and put it to canvass. I do like seagulls, unless I’m at an outside restaurant and the try to steal my food.

Great images . the poem takes the reader to the ocean where seagulls dwell as we watch with mixed emotions! . When I was a child , each summer we'd go to Maine and spend time at the Atlantic Ocean. I loves to watch the gulss frolic and their quaint cries stired my heart!

We love this poem, Diana! The beat, rhyme, and images are just right. Plus, we can see the regal seagull through your words. Impressive work!

It would be interesting to find out where a seagull goes to eat or sleep. They seem to be scavengers, willing to take out of the air or from the sea and even in garbage dumps, fine food of all kinds that only they can stomach.

You reminded me that I read to read "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" at some point. I understand that there is a lot of good philosophy in that book. Seagulls are an interesting study.

I often wonder the same thing. What are they thinking? Where do they go? A beautiful poem, Diana! Sincerely, Corrine Ardoin

A lovely tribute to an attractive and somewhat (as you express in your verses here) enigmatic bird. Nicely done, Diana. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,

Regis. 🌺🐦🌳🌼🍁

I was probably thirteen the first time I saw the ocean, so that was when I saw my first seagull. What with the faint smell from the ocean itself, the warmth of the sun, the playful laughter arising from splashing waves, the constructing of sand castles, and the constant breeze to stir the emotions all the more, there were the seagulls. They are there day after day, squeaking and hitching a free ride on the wind. Diana, this morning you have allowed me to be thirteen again. Your poetry speaks softly and whispers many thoughts to those who are listening.

I am a Maritimer from Nova Scotia so grew up with the racket of sea gulls on the water, on the piers and docks, following the fishing boats for scraps and at the local fast food places chasing dropped French fries. lol...
