A special day with my teenage Granddaughter Bella..
We went out to collect Brambles (Blackberries) for a Pie, and even though it started to pour with rain, we persisted and had a beautiful day together
to remember always..
(In the Rain series)

                               BRAMBLING IN THE RAIN...

The day was warm, the Sun was high,
juicy Brambles for a Pie!
We both set out
with jars in hand
to pick this tasty fruit,
then back to mine
to bake a Pie
with all this tasty loot!
Bella Gazella was picking fast
her jar was nearly full,
when Sun went in
the skies were grey
and all tuned rather dull..
Some big raindrops fell on our hair
we both looked up ‘Oh dear...’
A shower to stop our best laid plans-
our eyes met No! No fear!
We carried on
the rain did pour
big smiles and having fun!!

A treasured day
Just you and me..
A gift for all eternity.
To the World we both looked
quite insane...
Just happily
Brambling in the Rain....

Your last stanza is gleeful and solidly showing the strength of relationship. Bella Gazella is a catchy name, and “Brambling….” a jovial wrap up. Warm and fragrant piece, Diana. ~~ djl

How wonderful to share your Brambling in the Rain with your daughter.
I've loved blackberries all my life and never knew I was a brambler.
Now, lovely Diana, I'll never enjoy another blackberry without thinking you and your wonderful poem. What a gift you have shared!

Love and best wishes,
Richard

Sometimes, unforseen circumstances such as weather, can help create the best memories. Nicely done Diana.

We too have a granddaughter named Bella. For us when we were young, it was wild raspberries in Illinois. A sweet memory. rlc

I guess we never get too old to learn something. I have heard of a brambling bush, but I never knew a bramble and blackberry to be the same thing. As a child, when we went blackberry picking, we usually ate more of the berries than we put in our container. Too, the one with the most purple on their hands was a status symbol of who had picked the most berries. Berry picking was done on the hottest days, and long-sleeved shirts and pants were required to prevent being scratched by the briars. Once we got home with our pails filled with blackberries, we would eat berries with milk and sugar. The milk would turn the most beautiful color of lavender. My mother would make jam and jelly for a winter treat, and sometimes there would be enough berries for her to can for pies and cobblers. Thanks, Diana, for bringing forth something I had not thought about in a very long time. Good times with our grandchildren are the best, and you created a memory for Bella. I thoroughly enjoyed this gem.

A lovely, treasured memory well-shared via your verses, Diana. And you taught me a new word, "brambling." Mind you, I do not think this is the definition you had in mind. Here is the definition of "brambling."

A brightly colored finch (Fringilla montifringilla) that breeds in the northern parts of Europe and Asia and migrates southward in winter and is often kept as a caged bird

I enjoyed your shared event/experience with your granddaughter. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,

Regis. 🌺🐦🍁🌳😊

Ah my favorite thing to do on a beautiful spring day is bake
an apple pie, which I did this very morning. :) thank you for
always keeping it light and real for me. xo

What a wonderful story poem of a wonderful day that wasn't spoiled by a few raindrops. Not many get to experience joy like this.

I recently required my partner to buy blackberry jam and a blackberry pie, something that doesn't grow in this part of Southeast Texas.

But I do remember during my blackberry picking days there were only two dangers: to always be wary because bears find blackberries to be their favorite as well and the thorns meant to ward off the bear can leave one with deep scratches after a day of picking if one does not have protective gloves or shirtsleeves pulled tight.

Like in the olden days. I remember picking blackberries as a child and eating them with a purple mouth smeared. Thanks for the remembrance.
