Lilacs in The Rain...
Morning awakens,
I open the window
breathing deeply of
the Freshness of Springtime..
Joy is in the air!
Softly falling rain fills my
Heart with sweet remembrance,
My Love and I walking arm in arm
amidst Lilacs in the Rain...
We luxuriate in the heady fragrance
Giggling as soft wet spikes
tickle our noses...
Life back then was an open book,
Inviting, exciting with adventures new-
Young, Hopeful and deeply in Love...
I close the window..
alone with my thoughts I am wistful,
Yet happy for precious memories,
and a future still alive with dreamy
Possibility...

was a child. Their fragrance was dreany!
I like the ending with a dreamy possibility.

Lilacs remind me of my late and beloved Mum.
She had a beautiful and heavily scented lilac tree in her front garden.
You coin it all in a few choice, sentimental lines.
Remember always, there is no substitute for experience.

world bloomed before you. Writing poetry is a great way to drink from
the fountain of youth and creativity. Sending you energetic ties of love and peace. :)
Everything you say in your poetry always sounds lovely and expresses the depth of your heart and the sweetness of your soul. The same is true of “Lilacs in the Rain.” I think the bloom of the lilac bush is my favorite fragrance. My father planted two of them in our yard, so he must have loved the smell of them as well. As a child, I couldn’t resist breaking off several branches, placing them in a half gallon jar, and adding water to extend their life—all this as a gift for my mother. But truth be told, I think I probably did it as much for myself as I did for her. Both my parents are gone, and so are both lilacs my father planted so long ago. But even today I can walk up to a lilac bush in full bloom, smell the aroma emanating from its lavender blossoms, and travel to a time when life was simple and good. Thank you, Diana, for touching my senses with “Lilacs in the Rain.”

The whole time I was in California I don't recall seeing a lilac bush there, but I'm glad that Mark and his wife were able to plant and grow them.

Lovely poem, Diane.

You painted the perfect verbal picture of spring time liliacs, not only the colour and the scent but you managed to wrap it around or frame it in the joy of love. Well done Diana...
