Reflecting in Prosetry style on Our First magical Christmas together…and musing if my love now departed can still sense my feelings from that time…

Poem Artwork

              First  Christmas Together…

Do you still recall our first Christmas together?
Walking back through unexpected gentle snowfall,
large flakes silhouetted against glowing lamplight,
an eight foot tree between us…
you one end, me the other,
laughing and giggling like little children
on an exciting adventure.
We were young, but oh so happy!

Later, when trimmed and beautiful
with new glittering toys and sparkling tinsel,
the scent of fresh Pine surrounding us was intoxicating…
I can smell and  sense  it all still…
amidst the warmth and the softly twinkling lights…
Our little World, magical and complete.

So in Love,
      So in Love…

And now my Darling,
as I gaze deeply into the clear starry, starry night,
I reflect on whether you can still feel my sense of Wonder
from the Heavens…
still residing  fresh and evergreen…
Of our first, unforgettable,
enchanting Christmas together…
and knowing that one day...
we shall know it anew...

Such a beautiful poem, Diana. I know he was with you then and always, because you describe such felt connection his presence stirred within you. A cherished memory, a lovely time between you, brought to life in your wonderful words!

Golden memories and the yearly emotions can be bittersweet at the same time.

If only we could turn the clock backwards and relive such precious times.
I guess we have to keep winding the clock and, in gratitude, swim the bliss of such enchanting times.

This is so visual, Diana. You have a keen talent for writing about treasured experiences, so personal, but so relatable to others. I, for one, feel your writing brings to life most everything you focus on. You breathe life into your writing, and we get to ‘see’ it, get to ‘be there.’ Thank you ~~ Diana (the other)

What a wonderful picture and description of that time you had together. He certainly would love it if he was still here to read it.

My wife had a beautiful tree at her apartment when we were married on 26 December and then spent the next three days traveling a winter wonderland in northern Wisconsin all the way to Lake Superior while it snowed it every day. We parted three years later, but had a tall tree in our new home in Houston with a very high, two-story ceiling in our living room.

Diana,

How well I remember our first Christmas together—the year was1967, we had only been married four months, the flames from the fireplace flickered and added glow to my love’s eyes, but the flickering flame within our hearts gave us inexplicable warmth. Together, we made all the ornaments for that first tree. Yes, I remember it all and the many Christmases that follow, with Janet by my side.

Thanks, Diana for helping me remember the beauty of my first Christmas with Janet through the expressions from your heart.

Hugs ~ David

No greater memories Diana then those that lit us up inside for the very first time. I am sure that from heaven this twinkling star is watching you and thinking how precious that first year was, thank you for sharing such a tender poem of beauty and heart. :)

Diana, what lovely words!
What a lovely remembrance!
So sorry that your love has departed.
I've never been one to wish a "departed' person; "happy heavenly birthday". I simply do not believe that way. I will say, however. if at all possible, your loving husband has heard your words,

Mark

An uplifting and joyous poem, filled with beautiful memories! I enjoyed this greatly. I talk to my late husband all the time and I do often still say sweet things to him.

Two days ago he visited me during the day. I went into the kitchen and smelled the smell of his cigarettes (NOTE: I only live with my daughter, and neither one of us is a smoker. The cigarette smell was exactly like the smell of my husband's when he was alive) so immediately, I knew he was there. I asked, "Are you here with me, honey?" - Of course, he did not answer, nor could I see him, but I just knew he was there. Then I began to talk to him and tell him stuff and he probably was standing beside me listening.

After I'd finished telling him stuff, then the cigarette smell was gone. I took a few deep breaths but could not smell that anymore. Wasn't that phenomenal? Our loved ones are always listening to whatever we say.

This poem has it all - love, romance, Christmas, youth, adventure, and your guy who looks like Paul Bunyan (really big!). Merry Christmas, Diana, and thanks for being such a great contributor to Authors Den and to the wonderful world of poetry.

Some memories can be sweet, poignant, and painful, as is this lovely poem. Christmas has an enchantment attached to it through all the memories we possess, especially those memories with loved ones. We say rest in peace over the dead, but perhaps it is we that need to "rest in the peace" of such sweet memory.
