In my village I had no friend
because I am educated,
they won’t befriend me
So great was their envy
they hiss where and when I pass
they won’t come into my house
but would stand afar to mock me
This is why I came to the city
to stay with the learned ones
but they too wouldn’t befriend me
nor would they let me sit by their side
and someday I overheard them say
The stench of the village,
that village where I spent my youth
it clung strongly to my clothes……
and I was too crude in my ways
thus anytime they see me approach
the learned one in their circle of friends..
they would quickly disperse
as if a plague was on the way
So I snuggled in the valley
and there I brought all
that gave joy to my heart
that I might drive away
all the loneliness I feel
……….I belong nowhere.
