Drifting

Sitting in a dim, yet still darkened room, I can feel the world collapsing around me.
All the shattered cries for help echoing in my mind. I push it out, I push it away, and for a moment it all seemed to fade.
Yet there, under all the tattered years, lies a memory.
Of what, I am not sure. Maybe a childhood, a lost hope, or a dream.
Nothing ever was what it seemed. In a world where I don’t know much, I’m drifting, and falling out of touch.
Coming back to the world, my mind burned out.
If only I could figure most of it out.
My insides are ragged, my heart is so cold.
My mind is distorted and still I’m alone.
This concept of the world I can not grasp, as I am no savior, I’m doomed to collapse.
So shaken and tormented, my mind withered so, I’ve no more hopes and no where to go.
In dreams I am safe, in life I am trapped, the world screams at me a concept I can not grasp.

Still drifting I see, if there is anything that lies beyond dreams.
God only knows how far I can go.
These memories stretch as I suppress.
They come back, I push them away, not lost, but put a side for another day.
I am once again momentarily free.
I can feel a cool night breeze on me, surrounding me.
I can gaze into the stars and think of how far they really are.
To look into the distance and see the sun rise, as the first rays are cast over the sky.
The light in my eyes, the warmth on my skin…how perfect everything has been.
The silence is broken, my eyes are not shut.
The hardest part is always waking up. Eyes are open, the worlds once again a blur.
I miss the one place where I felt so safe.

So tired, and lonely, they don’t understand.
I’m crippled, I’m broken, I’m soon to be damned.
The memories, the past, the worlds a play, and I’m part of the cast.
What more can I do but look out the window at the passing world.
The children running and screaming.
If only they’d realize their wasting their youth.
My eyes are empty, though I wish I could cry.
Everything’s falling apart around me, and I can see…no it can’t be…can it be?….is it all just a dream?

I sit….I wonder…I can not move…a dream….a vision, my world is so full.
Here I see and think of things but I only wonder, what things would be like if lived in a dream.
Still drifting, as eyes grow heavy for this time, is time well spent.
My heart is racing, my mind is its own, its creating this image of everything I know…I feel so safe, where I am in this place.
I don’t want to leave, if only I can I stay, just drifting farther and farther away…
