Poem Artwork

          Let’s Trade Junque

Looking in on  TV’s “Clean House”
to see staff palm off dog-eared
books with scribbled-on covers
and neon toys that “properly wound”
go clangaclangabooooingggTHUD,
I find I can’t look away.  Today
they are tossing in an extra mountain
of “collector” flopadoodle, a kewpie
with...three eyes?  Ta-DA, “Maw’s whatnot,”
three ladderbacks thick with paint
fell off a truck with a towel hiding
its license plate and the odd [!] table
just missed Ripley’s Believe-it-
or-Not.  Teetering on top are pop-ups
don’ pop. “Hot” curlers are “perfectly safe”
because they stop at lukewarm.  Curl
your locks tented in this flowered muumuu.
Mmmm, dust-coated Jiffy Pop!  Or will it be
the toaster with the stuck knob?   No?
Here’s an iron you haven’t seen.
Here’s a poster of some famous dude.
As for the Monopoly set, always fake
Park Place.  Get out of Jail.  Look cool
in the hair rug.  Rest your tootsies
on this floor mat  {“Difference, don’t ask”}.
Toss-up now between the rabbit jacket
and Pisa-towering highboy with. . .curlicues?
‘bout these earrings, this rhinestone necklace
matches exactly.  Sorta.  Got your feather
boas, got your leis.  Everyone needs tangled
coral and a coral snake eyeballing fanged
glass.  The fish are resting, that is all.
Parrot in this cage knows how to keep a secret,
or maybe you prefer blue streaks.  ??  You
watch the show, right?  Say what?  Sooner be caught
with your nose in an Inquirer, checking out Tom
or Nicole?  Whether there’s a new blue dot
to bring you the kazillions you deserve?
Oh. You’re the one watches documentaries.
Well, should you HAPpen by ACCident
to see “Clean House,” prepare yourself
to be fascinated.  Disgusted, I mean.
How can people buy that stuff?   Excuse me,
I need to go turn off the lava lamp,
dress my new Barbie, and feed my pet rock.

I don't watch TV much anymore but I do peruse EBAY which is much the same. I believe that I really do NEED to buy that old Veg-A-Matic (in "like new" condition)...used to have one...loved it! right? I used to watch Home Shopping…that is an impulse buyers dream and you can do it in the privacy of your own home so nobody knows your obsession...except the UPS guy who gives you "That Look" as he hands you your eighth package this week. This is a fun write, Pea. I really loved it! hmmm think I am going to go see if I can get Home Shopping Channel here without having cable..... (o;
Take care,
Sherry

Pea,

LOL--you must have been looking in my apartment! I have more...STUFF (especially books). I really need to go through it all, but I don't think anyone would want it. 'Course, I never know...

An excellent, humorous write that brought back many memories of junque :)

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)
