````````{sneaked a smidge a glitter from the inimicable Sage Sweetwater, poet and all-round great gal} {{Whiz with tie-dye, too!}}`````````
                      Forget the Glue
Do you ever get the feeling you lost something
no one can replace?   That every time
you get a glimmer, it sees you and sprints away?
This while surface after surface groans
beneath the weight of things you do
not need.  Don't bother asking why
you hold on.  Staring barely reveals a trace
of the glitter used to iridesce.  And yet. . .and yet
memory calls from every photo.  Ceramic lump
ins instead of outs.   Bowls and ashtrays
turned to sorry catchalls during forays
into giving up.  Can't remember who-all gave.
Books  are not things,  move on.
Here we have your stabbed-at crafts
and scissors that are reluctant to open, far less
cut.  . .rock claiming to be glue. . .had
serious plans to do something with
the busted bling.  Like, break apart.
Simple matter  after  of  restringing beads
and reconnecting rings.  Snag, got
crashed UFO's.  Never flew, you know.
Clean sweep the ticket, but. . .play the game.
Vegetable, mineral, or warm?    Pillow
always  plump falls on its face.
Comes up bawling I am a clue.
Depression on one side
of the couch lacks a mate.  Why think
object of affection?  Skirt and keep looking
for the thing you thought  precious
but not enough.  Envision the room as it was
a day ago.  Week. . .month. . .year?
Maybe if you open the windows and run
the fan, the empty, stuffy air will go.
Always feather away dust.  Vacuum
what lost features. Bit here, piece, there,
done.  Wait.   Last cleaning, maybe went
too far.   Ended up trashing. . .so that's
what. . .why it is I who. . . am. . .missing
or simply. . .hardened excess
Well buffalo nickels and mercury dimes! I find a table where the light is good, settle down with boxes of earthen fragments the village women give me, and begin to rebuild clay pots that have fallen from their macrame hangars. FORGET THE GLUE! The village women pay me in buffalo nickels and mercury dimes. Some of the fragments are no bigger than a baby's fingernail. I mix clay with water and talcum-fine sand to cover over the spider-web cracks, re-surfacing and re-firing the pots in a small brick kiln. FORGET THE GLUE!
This composition's message is profound and sharp on its alertness.
No one should "Forget the Glue" after a heedful reading of this poem.
True poetic mission accomplished through the wise lines of
"Forget the Glue".
Thank You, Poet, for adding this treasury to the history of Poetry.
All the time, I'm afraid, Phyllis, and it gets worse, the older I get!
