Poem Artwork

Swifter than a cheetah, than the cheetah’s
fleetest dream. . . hint
of the tickle of
an octagon of snow
just at the moment
it meets a lash
just as it lowers
to lid an eye
almost manages to see
the crystal the ice storm knitted
before it turns
to an infinitesimal sea. . . . .
peregrine. . .swallow. . .whippet
on speed. . . hair between
bullet leaving pistol and the last
of the life
seeps from a soldier,
an infant, a teen. . .water skate
skip-flying across a creek
just as the sun sets. . .sheet-
whispered Love you. . .sex
or the hiss of oxygen leaving
a tank. . flicking on of an alarm,
then flicking it off. . .salted fig and peach
taste wants to linger to
tongue a leg.
Is it time that is the cheat,
do you think, or death?

something we cannot predict...only God knows for sure! I think through His grace we can sometimes evade and prolong our own death and destiny...or we can on the other hand decrease our days through foolish choices! Great write...I like what Jude said, "The only way we can "cheat" death is to survive it...
enjoyed the write, you always have a way of capturing the readers attention...
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling

Celebrated passage which waters our soul, Phyllis...Just like That stills the senses, like the bird in flight, life's well has been fitted with a timeless windlass, one of those little Moorish waterwheels possessed by every Castilian farm. We have to direct our stream to fly the whole mental field...it really is all about Goodness, Truth, and Beauty...you possess all three.

Love you in gliterati,

Sage

A creative pen stops us in our tracks and makes us think: excellent, (((Pea))), I'd hope we could cheat Death. Prayer avails much. :) But then again, we're really not in control of the situation, are we? A thought provoking, excellent write, as only YOU can DO!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Hope this finds you well--

Pea,

It comes like a thief in the night for some but why must it linger for others.

Interesting thoughts in this well-written poem, Pea! Love your last two lines,
"Is it time that is the cheat,
do you think, or death?"
Very well done -- leaving your readers to ponder one last question!
Love,
CJ

Perhaps time, since we seem to cheat death on a daily basis, yet time continues no matter how clever we are. Fantastic poem, Pea.
Take care,
Sherry
