This is a much-revised poem that I posted some time back. Hopefully, it is nearer the mark.

{Sorry I have been neglectful; one of the latest drawbacks was having to undergo an emergency root canal. On two antibiotics and another med that doesn't always agree. Always somethin', isn't it.)

Poem Artwork

“Take out your blue crayon, and color the sky.”
“Now take your white crayon and color the two clouds.”
Growing up, the sky was not free
from school rules. It belonged to Dick, Jane, Spot,
and  instructor Persnickety.  Columned home owners
who showed roses, orchids, and whatchacallits.
Their mullioned windows featured flower boxes
sawed, planed, and hammered by carpenters
only allowed inside if there was something needed
fixing.  Backdrops were of  approved hues.
Clouds so white, they looked like cream
that had been whipped so long it was stiff.

How many blue skies can a person  color?   Clouds
surrounded by lines might as well be electric
fences?  One day Nature turned the classroom
blue-black accented by the white gold of
lightning.  The windows were skinny affairs.
Every shade was pulled eighteen inches.
Lights had blown, and many a child and teacher
was forced to put on a brave face.  Mine
must have shone. The ever-changing gray
was even more beautiful than the evening dress
dusk frequently wore.  Rose, lavender, and orange
with touches of every other color imaginable --
even green --  flowered and subsided, flowered
and subsided.   No two arrangements alike!
Green in there somewhere, and I pictured
the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk getting
together with Jack Frost to create the art.
For dawn, they splashed blood orange.  Sun
lapped the juice to stains in colors that I hunted
in vain for among my Crayolas.   Rain I loved
so much sometimes brushed the sky to tabby cat.
Other days reminded me of plates that were made
to sit next to snobs' china.   (Pewter not a word
I knew).  The blue of a central  Illinois December
was not the blue of January or February.  Every
month had its own palette.  October knew blue!
Made it sing!  Her clouds were almost as white
as the ones Teacher liked.  November scrubbed
most of them away.   By December, the sky was
wool.  Made me itch.  Oyster crept in, and silver.
Thanks to Rembrandt, Matisse, Renoir, Van Gogh,
and other geniuses, my skies now look pretty much
like skies.   All different, right?   Like us!!

black and white, lavender and crimson, yellow and orange, all fade into the adult hues of gray as we tend to lose our imaginations and creative vibrancy -- your work is intriguing to muse over Phyllis Jean, send us another just like it to savor my friend -- peace and love -- Jon Michael

A great write. There are many colors in ones world . There are many skies to be seen and be enlightened by with their different hues of blues , and other colors intertwined as the sun rises or eventide comes. One adheres to the passage of time...M

Excellent Pea. Yes there are different skies just like there are different people. The sky today is not the sky of tomorrow, or the sky from yesterday.

Thanks to Rembrandt, Matisse, Renoir, Van Gogh,
and other geniuses, my skies now look pretty much
like skies. All different, right? Like us!!

I whole heartedly agree. Thank you for sharing this.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie.

Excellent poetry. The line "Growing up, the sky was not free
from school rules," will stay with me for a long time.

Pea...you've gone and done it...raised crayola painting to its highest, and word-painted a revision to a masterpiece!
"All different, right? Like us!!" Oh, yes...different, yet, in some ways, so much alike.

GOSH, (((Pea))), undone by your imagination and that wonderous sky - in all of its brilliance - this had to be written with me in mind, roight? LOL In addition to being a StormSpinner, I am a SkyWatcher. =] And this vista is as big as the Texas skies - beautiful. Concur with Fee: one of your bests (out of many). Well done!

Your images here are every bit as vibrant and bright as an artist inks and the completed work sits on an easel waiting to be displayed in all it's glory. Very nicely done...one of your best of all time.
