The poet remembers his grandfather's retirement decision.
Last Day in the Yards An aged conductor tells tells the tale of the day Frank retired from the Frisco. Years dim vision in a switch engine yard; hand signals begin to blur. Frank leaned from the cab and hailed the brakeman, "Bill, put on the white gloves!"

Interesting because most brakemen never wear gloves when the train is being stopped.
