I snapped a photo as a sparrow took flight
from the limb of a berry bush.
When I viewed the shot on screen
I saw a blur of wings
dappled brown breast
now diffused in white
against a background of green
too fast for shutter speed.
I’d captured the escape of a soul
witnessed an open seam
or perhaps not escape, but entry
a host receiving its angel of action.
