She slipped into my dreams once more
From paradise she called out my name
But this time I heard it loud and clear
Although it was an echo from long ago
She was a powerful drug I had injected
Subcutaneous into the skin of my heart
And the meaning of why she had come
waited there for a reason to be revealed
but was she late for the bus that had left?
Or maybe early for the one yet to arrive?
Or would I be put away filed in her mind
For a someday if she would ever need me
I closed my eyes and imagined her there
In that image that was indelibly etched
A sharp tattoo imprinted upon my mind
That the years that passed had not faded
her whispers floated through my thoughts
just as if my dreams were all placid lakes
and remained on the surface of the water
where she could see intent crystal clear
we wrote our names in the sand long ago
and the tides came and erased every bit
but now it had made a larger chalkboard
for the beginning of every gorgeous day
for whenever she would come into view
