"Portrait of a Girl"

I pictured her there on the edge of the bed
just as I had seen her in a thousand dreams
wearing nothing but a smile to dress the night
Her eyes sparkled brightly like nearby stars
those loosened from the skin of constellations
the ones I confused with Mars, Saturn or Venus
the ones that sliced through cold winter skies
and when she looked at me; it vibrated my soul
as she prepared a warm dawning inside my heart
so that the flames of love would grow even higher
I was melted wax within the pursing of her full lips
soft and full as they gleamed in the filtered light;
two butterflies sprouting wings in an imagined kiss
alighting gently from the branches of my heaven

I watched her sit up at the edge of the bed
As she turned abruptly to look my way
She was a creation of art from head to toe
Every square inch was fantasy in perfection
Her body was my sweet morning coffee
perked and peaked in my attentive gaze
distinct and curved in symmetrical silhouette
amplified contrasts in warm soft-filtered shadows
and I would rewind each morning just like this;
a tireless beauty intact in the moment she awakens
She would pause and smile in her perilous charm
a work in progress to keep me for all my days
with her image recorded upon my eternal canvas
