"Ancient Sky"

Each star is a grain of sand
on the beach of an ancient sky
upon an indigo blanket of space
in the light of the Creator’s eye
Within the multitude of these grains
albeit lost in this blue-black sea
but even the faintest stars prove
the insignificance of humanity
In day, these all become forgotten
until we look at them now and then
for we pay far too much attention
to the irrelevance of mortal men
The Creator has been more than kind
to provide us with fruit, flower and tree
but we pride ourselves in technology
just as if somehow we were he
The serpent knew of our shortcomings
and his great legions dutifully applaud
when bridled with the freedom of choice
we audaciously choose to be like God
But that is vanity working overtime
as imperfect creatures that feign to vie
for our breaths are much fainter yet
within that light of an ancient sky
