Winter Storms and Summer Passions

A comparison between men and women--some anyway.

Love and hate share warm,
frosty mornings.

Man is hypnotized watching colorful butterflies
fluttering from flower to flower
wrapped in eye shadow and aromatic creams.

Woman is thoughtful for small things
like fluffy tailed squirrels,
the right color of lip gloss,
and scented water lilies.

Man, in perpetual heat,
coils during an unending
mating season
in Socratic dens that read like Dante.
Every willowy waist and long, smooth leg
captivates
creating expectations
like hot volcanic ash
burning his imagination.

Woman talks of this and that,
kitchen talk,
spending hours looking
for the right outfit.

Man talks about
boobs, poon-tang, tail, pussy and muff
while draining six-packs
staring at flat-screen football.

At night erotic dreams of nubile women
in the heat of early womanhood
take the place of counting sheep.

Woman scolds the children
for not doing the chores or finishing homework.
She washes between toes; behind ears.
“Say ahhh.”
And inspects teeth.

When woman is not around,
man says to sons, “Watch and learn!”
Then he belches, farts and smiles.

See My Splendid Concubine, historical fiction by Lloyd Lofthouse

“I was struck by the beauty of the cover, and I certainly was not disappointed by the book’s contents. A fascinating illumination of nineteenth-century Chinese culture and the complex Englishman Robert Hart, the father of China’s modernization. Hart’s struggles adapting to Chinese culture, always feeling the pull and force of his Victorian British background, are compelling. His relationships with his concubine and his concubine’s sister are poignant—the novel is as much a study of the complexities of love as it is anything else. A powerful novel whose beauty exceeds that of the book’s cover.”

Lloyd,
Whether 'some' or 'more' you're going to get flak anyway, brave man!
As in your other poems your courage comes through and once again I like and admire the points of view, honest, open and sensitive.

probably more than just "some" ... good comparative poetic narrative ...

Lloyd,

Powerfully penned and imaged: glad you didn't mean all. But then again ... think you've captured men perfectly. LOL Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Lloyd, it's good that you said "some anyway." Otherwise,
you maybe better hide. -gene.

Genius writing. However, a PG rating is a tad mild due to some of the language. Still it's one I'm glad I read and probably wouldn't have had it been rated higher.

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
