I understand there are
A thousand names for God
And the answers
Are hidden.
Life comes in stages;
Shakespeare said
“All the world’s a stage”
In the Seven Ages of Man.
He wrote,
“All the men and women merely players
They have their exits and entrances.”
Was he wrong?
Seldom does that highway
Go straight and fast
Without potholes
Or slow curves and
Unexpected
Blind spots.
Lest I forget,
Make sure to
Keep an eye out
For falling
Rocks
or
The occasional
Deer crossing.
A Victory Baby
Born in the USA
Rose from ashes
Not Once
Not Twice
The first fire was
A virus
Threatening
Total destruction
To a child’s heart
Leading to a
Semi-invalid
Youth,
A battle raging
More than a decade—
“Dark years” lost
In doctors’ offices
Where vampires
With needles
Became heroes.
Victory led to
Starting over
In Vietnam
Where another
Birthing
Took place
That day a sniper
Almost ended
A new life.
A promise to God,
Not easy to keep,
Followed by marriage,
A trial by fire,
Fueled with booze,
Anger and
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,
An explosive mix.
After the ashes of divorce
And depression,
The next whelping led to
Fighting back
With a quest for life
Looking for answers
Making Choices
And mistakes
Accepting some;
Rejecting others.
The following act took place in
A high Mountain wilderness.
In summer the lid
Was blue sky
And in winter
Snow.
Like a Mother
Those ten thousand foot peaks
Soothed;
Nourished
And brought the
Injured
Back from another brink.
The years that followed
Were filled with patched paths
In need of repair
Always leading to
New discoveries;
New revelations.
Lessons learned—
Always keep searching
For blue skies
Or sand along a seashore
Until Mother brings you Home
On Her terms.
The real challenge is to
Find God’s names
And engrave them in the
Granite behind
Your eyes
To understand
Only as you can.
Since He is always there
Watching,
Avoid the herd
Before the
“Last scene of all
That ends
This strange eventful history.”
This is wonderful biography or autobiography, sharp and poignant in the telling, laced with significant details - epiphanies really - and for the reader totally satisfying. As Gene says, Magic indeed.
John
to put it in such words as you have done. Magic indeed, Lloyd.
-gene. (I may have more to say after I've read this a few more
times and after I shake this damn cold.)
Be always safe,
Karen
Oh, how I've missed you! There is history; there is Grace. Richly imaged, thought provoking lines. Well done.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
