I sold my soul to the devil; I played the game and lost

I sold my soul to the devil, I didn't count the cost.

That one-eyed, one armed bandit done won the game again

I sold my soul to the devil for a quarter and a bottle of Gin.

I sold my soul to the devil one night in the August heat

I remember saying, "One more time, I don't like defeat."

The Vegas strip was burning with men on a winning streak

But the one-eyed, one armed bandit was making a fool of me.

Yeah, that one-eyed, one armed bandit is more than I can stand

Lost two thousand on the floor, three hundred in this can.

I reached down for my bottle and all that I could see

Was the legs on Miss Veranda, the sight was dazzling me.

I sold my soul to the devil one night in the August heat

I remember turning back the sheets, Miss Veranda at my feet

My wallet on the nightstand and trousers on the floor

An empty old Gin bottle, I couldn't ask for more.

Yeah, that one-eyed, one armed bandit done took me for a ride

And the sweet blue eyed Veranda was stealing the best of my pride

When I awoke on Sunday, I was there all by myself

The blue eyed sweet Veranda had rolled me for the rest.

I sold my soul to the devil, one night in the August heat

My fortune gambled on the floor and Miss Veranda of the street

But, I'll be back next summer to play the game again

And see my sweet Veranda, on a quarter and a bottle of Gin!

Yeah, I'll see my sweet Veranda on a quarter and a bottle of Gin!
