Exactly one month from today, I should be back in this Heaven on earth!
The whitecaps marched north out on old Lake Laberge
On this sunny but blustery day
And as I sat there on the bluffs, in my chair
I wished them God-speed on their way
My mind wandered back a hundred years past
When the 'Klondikers' came sailing by
With those dreams in their eyes,out here under God's skies
They might never get rich-but they'd try
'Though some never got rich in the pocket
They found treasures apart from the gold
These were honest and strong folk who came here
Finding treasures their kinfolk still hold
I don't think there are many 'Yukoners'
Unawares of this legacy's worth
Even I, as a lowly outsider
Recognize-this is Heaven on earth!

"The whitecaps marched north..." <--- an absolutely brilliant image, John.. sigh.. you've painted a mind picture here that is so inviting to read, yes.. but how I wish I could stand there too.. just a wonderful sharing of an obviously glorious place! I also think of the history of these experiences of place and mind when I find them. Truly beautiful poem. katy.
