AM I MY BROTHERS KEEPER?
He walks up to me and my countenance fell. As the bile tried desperately to move beyond my esophagus
Not because of anything I consciously did but because I have been programmed to accept or not accept certain things.
I stood talking, trying to resist the urge to run. Trying desperately to talk without breathing.
The odor that emanate from my brother was more that I could bear
I did not run away I did not walk away. I would not, could not allow myself to betray another
He needed to talk. He needed me to listen and I listen I must.
He has a message that I must hear and if I run away it
will only return on some other day in some other way.
Who is this man whose stench offends my nostril?
Whose pain so great t brings tears to my heart
He is my brother, my father, my uncle and my son.
He is all the men I have met and will ever meet.
With him he carries all their pain. The dream they are dreaming he was dreamt
The vision they behold were once seen in his eyes
Eyes that are now blood shot from too little sleep and too much brew
What will become of him I wonder?
Will he fall asleep one last time on his concrete bed and quietly slip away
No one to miss him no one to morn him
My brother, my father, my uncle and my son
