When the one God gave you has gone away... His memory will always stay...

Somewhere between God and John Wayne

That's how I felt when I first fell in love

He was gorgeous and tall, although not like a star

Beauty they say is in the heart not the eye

Like the master above, he could read my mind

pampered and loved me with all my flaws

Spoke in gentle tones, even when I knew he was mad

Never showed his worries so that I could tell

Kept his trust in Him all the while...that was his style

Anyone who knew him said he was a giant

Especially his children, who set him on high

For kids, that's something, at least  it was to him

When I said he adopted them, that they were mine...

I saw his hurt, when he said, God loaned them to me!

Humble and kind, gentle yet tough....he was always refined

All women were special, he'd always say....

They are our mothers, our sisters, the glue in our lives

Treat them sweetly, respect them, they are wise beyond time

Who knew that his heart would one day stop

and as it did, our core had crumpled before us

Promise me he'd said numerous times before...

Life is short, so don't waste a minute...

Love with your heart, never hold it within

Give til it hurts, you'll be glad in the end

When he was gone, and I sat at his service,

Amazed at the people who arrived one by one

People I'd never even known, all stood to speak

ofthis man they'd  all known...

Grown men cried.... and women did too..

Then our son stood before all and gave his adieu

"DAd was somewhere between God and John Wayne"......
