I CAN'T HEAR YOU!
by: Linda Law
Remember when we were slender and lithe,
in love with love and searching for Mr. Right?
Pure as the driven snow, flirtatious and soft,
Yet deep inside knew I'd be classy not trashy
It took me forever to find the right man
and shocked when he said I was pretty and sexy!
The years have passed by, and thank God for the memories, especially thanks that I even recall them
Today as my guy and I got all mushy, he said,
How long must I keep my eyes shut; I can feel you
like braille; know all your bumps head to the tail...
We laughed and talked about how we used to be
young and exciting, ready for an adventure
Now we can think about it, and it tires us indeed,
Okay with you if we do this later? Sure...how late?
Dressed up all spiffy and cute we both looked
Went to have lunch, sat in a booth, ordered BBQ
French fries and Rootbeer, more catsup will do
We lingered and held hands, and finally got up
He nudged me to the door, as I pulled him behind
We both knew we had much more in mind
He through the backdoor, me through the front..
by the time I came in, he was stretched out prone
on the Sofa in front of the big TV...forgot about me!
Dragged in the computer, to sit next to my guy
figured I'd work and share this special time with him
I squeezed my bottom onto the sofa...
He looked at me, surprised and smiling
Aha...he's thinking "later is here", but no..Not so!
I worked for awhile, and noticed his eyes
shut and snoring, so I touched his face and said
to him..."I want a hug, and maybe a snuggle"
His body laboured toward me from his side of the sofa, and mine got stuck to the leather on the right
We scooted and soon in the middle we met
Both exhausted; all the energy was spent
Finally, I laid my head on his shoulder
He lifted his arm to caress and hug me..."Oh,Awh,
Golly this hurts"....as I moaned and groaned in
symphony with him; or is the word sympathy?
We broke apart, slowly and carefully
Afraid something would crack, creak or break
He looked at me and said, "where'd we go wrong?"
I don't know...so let's just hold hands and remember
Oh sweet memories... Marathons, energy well spent
hotels, motels, the boat and the pool...and school!
We talked about it, laughed and he-hawed!
Where did the years go? Where did our bodies go?
"If only our bodies would move like our minds" he said this more times than I want to hear
The day is almost gone, and he's resting in there,
While I write about what was and isn't and can't
The one thing we agreed on is that we are happy
but slow...creaking and creeping, slow as we go
Laughing and hugging and talking about it...
Wondering what will be next to go?
What? What did you say? When? When did we?
Who? Who are you? Let me touch you, Oh yeh..
it's you! Who? I CAN'T HEAR YOU?

newfie Hugs my friend, Rose
you've captured it with the question
of body or mind... too bad we're not
wise and young, only as young as you feel
I guess. Hopefully!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
You reached inside of my mind,
brought back memoirs of olden times.
Its sad that we can not hold those,
feeling all our life through.
But our body will not hold true,
to the young feeling we once had.
Thank you for reminding me of those,
by gone day of younger lust, how sad.
Huggs to you my Lady.....Donnie

An absolute gem of a poem, however, one small thing doesn't ring true -- you are still young and exciting, plenty of good times ahead inside you!!!
Great little diddy, Stuart
