Life changes and now it's time to let others help -- but it is so difficult
It's time to change places ... why is that so hard? We start so eager to be in charge -- you tell the story so well I feel as if I was there You watched your Pop - my grandpa - drive that car - shift those gears- you couldn't wait till it was your turn to be behind that wheel -- perhaps a symbol of the wheel of life Now you are 96 - soon to be 97 and time to switch places is creeping forward ... this time it's not with your father but with your child That child may need to make decisions you thought belonged only to you Life seems so unfair Yesterday you did it all Today's reality is crashing down as you ponder the time you thought would never come You ask - Where has all that time gone? I'm not ready to change places .... yet. Copyright 2009 Susan Williams

This is a very "real" write, Susan. I witnessed my father wither away over a period of three years. The cycle of life does seem rather sad at times. A compelling poem. Thank you for sharing it. Love and best wishes to you,

This is a very thought provoking write. My father lived until 91 and looked and acted like he was 70, and he never gave up his independence. How fortunate it is for your father that he has seen and experienced so many years of life. He is a suvivor and I bet an interesting person to know.

How true. Life is a circle. You start out helpless, learn much along the way, than as you get older, your like that babe again. Very profound and truthful write.
