For Rose, who 's mind says, WHY.

My heart breaks for this hidden love so true yet can never be and my mind says WHY?

                               We, Never to be “We”

How well we know that we,

you and me can never be...

“we.”

The time between the many years

that separate us.

The difference between the many miles

that separate us.

From east to west.

From my side of the country

to your side of the country.

Your family there, to the east.

My family here, to the west.

Those you love there.

Those that need you,

those you "care" for there.

The man you sleep next to,

that you do not love, there.

Those I love here.

The empty half of my bed,

that we both know, spiritually,

belongs to you, alongside me, here.

How sad that we...

we,

you and me,

we, that love one the other,

though we should be “we”,

can never,

or ever will be,

 “we.”

My heart breaks when something stands in the way of true love. I understand the reason WHY but I once wasted years in a relationship where there was no love, praying to be in the arms of the man I knew was meant to be. I have now been loved and loved the right person for 36 years. My heart breaks deeply for those who have to live in secrecy. Thank you Mark.

Ah the agony of what can never be! This poem was filled with longing for an unrequited love. You make the reader "feel" the emotions.

We, the clam will never say it, or the lonely wandering gossamer spirit eternally searching, but man can.
The we of man, is a longing for company, to not have the other half of that bed empty, to feel his head resting on something soft and warmth.
We, so precious and many times so unattainable...

Georg
