Gray Sky Opening. Storm over! Gray sky opening. California sky deep blue With startling white clouds Floating from here to infinity. Hills burnt brown with countless Days of year-round sunshine Now alive with velvet-like Green growth brought to Life by the kiss of heavens tears. Rolling hills with wind rippled Undergrowth born anew by Liquid touch As off in the distance Far mile upon mile Ragged mountains range with Snowy white crowns Leaving one to wonder If cloud topped Or snow covered. Haze of the city washed Clean by wind and rain Giving vision, So far as the Eye can see With crystal clarity. Storm over! Gray sky opening. ©January 27, 2013 / Mark M. Lichterman

I only spent three wonderful years in California, but I recall the storms in the annual renewal of the hillsides after the rain and the white topped mountains so nearby while the temperature remained moderate all year long. Your poem brought back memories.

Damn Mark, is that you? A quite different approach to the poem than anything I have ever read from you before. I certainly approve, although you don't need my approval. As I read the poem I could vividly visualize the contour of the land and the color it was. Good work!
