Seeding Life With Death

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Reading the week-end news, i.e., Florida, North Korea, Paris, Leavenworth, Afghanistan family payouts, one is struck with how patiently Man awaits each new season for planting and irrigating both life and death. Makes one wonder why we choose to always remain on the brink of…

Seeding Life With Death

Throughout the night
Maintenance sentries clocked by the hour
Sprinkle roots to spawn further
Their call of duty arcing
From flower bed
To curbside lawn patch
Arrogant tomorrows awash
Their 1% at work

In a different time zone
Thousands of mind-miles Eastward
Bombs and tracer-glow
Arc a different earth
Arid with history’s human mulch
Filling lungs with particles
Dust of bones and flesh
Fed but poison for lifetimes

How sad
This thing called war
Where daily irrigation of its roots
Seep ever deeper into the erosion
Cycling seeds of hatred and ignorance
Spawning more perpetuated habit
Making yesterday’s season of life
A mere waiting game for
Tomorrow’s death

While here

Cool water runs freely
Sprinkling the healthiest lawns on earth

Makes me think of the Joni Mitchell lyric, "The Hissing of Summer Lawns". It's hardly surprising, is it, that there's a rumble in the jungle since, for all our globalisation and technological advances, we haven't seen fit to redress the balance between the "haves" and "have nots" of this small planet; at least not philanthropically. And greed and corruption are perhaps most rife in those communities where the disparities are greatest and it's dog-eat-dog. There are no easy answers... but the grass passes on its rumours and the words of unrest spread! The daily irrigation of the roots of war are causing the social erosion that will ultimately render this world a complete dustbowl. Hatred is fuelled by ignorance and self-interest and greed but, on the flip side, where technology is bringing us idealogically closer, hopefully such ignorance is wearing thin. Instead of toxic, crop-spraying pollutants, would those planes blanket the earth with a peace hormone instead! A strongly visual write, Odin. Thank you. xx

War. Good God what is it good for?

Forgot who put that song out in the silly sixties, but it was pretty much on target. Don't get me wrong, I say war is needed when it is needed. I never understood Iraq, except it was payback time for it's dictator for trying to assassinate Bush, Sr. Afghanistan? Yup. I was for it, but it seems we are too busy trying to not hurt the peoples feeling that we are trying to kill that we fucked even that up. War. If it is in your national interest, yeah, go there break things, kill people, but don't let political correctness tie you down. Okay. I'll stop, about to get on a rant, and don't really feel like it.
