Petri Dish Reflections

Birth of another kind is around the corner. There is much to learn, much to consider.

Petri Dish Reflections

Staring back up the funnel
refractions from my backlit reality
bounce off the cylinder walls
lighting up the microscopic eye
studying my every movement

How curious
this microcosm
mirroring another microcosm of sorts
one's "I" reflecting off the "eye"
about to become

Particles of atom within atom
having reached across the universe
encapsulating energy's foremost power
preparing what could be
sentient beings last hurrah

The about-to-be existence of me
now but a dot cocooned
between glass on glass
might be the beginning of
tomorrow's global survival
a designer population
comprised of more neurons
than there are stars in the known universe
undulating under micro-spotlights
readying the power
to birth a breed of self
by itself

Progress

But oh how loveless
future's impersonal incubation
a passionless artificial womb
carrying me
delivering me
as a motherless child

I peer back up at the eye
it continues to study me
I wonder
is that the eye of a real father
a real mother?

you raise questions of cloning, selective
breeding, new order, 'Boys from Brazil'
nightmare, unnatural selection..
the opening line is chilling, view and sense of
impotence and entrapment, an insect about
to be worked on to "..loveless..incubation"
the final question is equally disturbing
but you don't hold back;
this is essential reflection, Odin,
in a world that cares less each day and is
doomed because of carelessness

birth of another kind is here. Are you sure you know what you are eating? are we not a petri dish of sorts? very intersting write. This topic is huge in it's scope and understanding. and "we" certainly play with what we don't truly understand.

Interesting concept that the microcosm of the Petri Dish as a thinking individual, but that is the glory of the written word, the unbelievable becomes believable if presented in the right format and wordplay, which you have managed to pull off here.
