Once...

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Taking a hard look around--will earth, with us as the dominant species, possibly realize itself as a mere “accidental” parable in the grand scheme of existence?

Monday, June 4, 2012

Once...

Clouds move upward
Lifting gray above blue
Rippling time through tenuous life
Opening gates to gold
Sun's caress ever ready
Bestowing courage to weather cold doubts

Once...

Children regain trust
Know adults care not for prurient reward
Or exploitation of blameless ignorance
But understand the child within never goes away
Realizes pain knows not exclusivity
But resides as one with all
Forever a reality
Doing onto others as we
Do onto ourselves

Once...

Humans accept their micro-cephalic intelligence
Within a universe evolving its exponential magic
Rendering galaxies of superior essence
For man to but stand in awe
Of unknown revelations

Once...

Birth is questioned
Not as a biological process
But an equation buried in the matrix of knowledge
Beyond our meager means
Awaiting discovery by acumen
Cosmic time will reveal
In time
In time

Once...

Existence probes beyond the obvious
Allowing time and space to reveal
The Second Coming, or the Third, or Forth

Once...

Innocence returns
Awakening will continue

Once in time all will be revealed to these mere souls that we are here walking on the earth on our path.

I believe it was Arthur Clarke that wrote, “Childhood's End.” We may be at that point now where our innocence is forever lost.

One's reading another's poetry or prose or music or painting knows a kind of glow carries the flame, like a punt passes along the name we put on beauty and pain, such as Odin Roark's "Once," which flashed fresh light for me on a scene following the 1989 San Francisco earthquake we were in, whereby a small child watching the news points to the human figure falling off a bridge and says: "I fall down," because he was young enough to still have the "oneness" with all things and beings such that, to him, it was he who fell; but that child was taught our separateness which we honed so well that the "...exploitation of blameless ignorance" becomes Gerber to our young, and that food numbs their realization that "...pain knows not exclusivity," for they alone already know the equation of their birth before we tell them what they are worth, all of which invites this one-sentence response to Odin Roark's profound writing of "Once." ~~ Diana

Odin
Once we accepted as a species, but you are right
Once innocence was lost, we lost.
this is a keeper for sure.
