Romance

is there a romance of life
a ripple of peace and rest
as storms fade behind us
and nature's wash cleanses the residual wounds of the past
does the blue of calm meet the red of passion with cautious beckoning
are we but delusional in our praise of the heart's ceaseless trumpeting of yesterday's echoes

and what of this creature comfort that oft times is mistaken for love
can it be that mind over matter is reality's checkmate for careless games of infatuation
where the romance of love proves to be only dreams mistaken for consciousness
bringing aloneness begging of forgiveness

for truth be told
romance is life
a lyrical perspective
allowing the music of winged intonations and soulful protocols
to harmonize with the fragrance of smiles that permeates the symphony of living
where the clouds release sunlight
storms arrest our complacency
and cascades of past emotions take their rightful place
in the now of yesterday
the present of today
and the magic of tomorrow

what is romance
if not all of nature
all of the imagination
and forever the rapture of love
in all its wanting
in all its impatience
in all its unknowns
and forever in all its undiscovered self-perpetuating enigma

but oh how sweet its reality

there's a bit of lust in love, in real love. To harmonize with the fragrance of smiles that permeates the symphony of living.

it's the final nine lines that do it for me,
Odin, that universal view, the true picture..
and you built to it beautifully

My response to this poem is a swirling of flirt and ferver. That initial line: "is there a romance of life" is like the opening of French doors, on the other side of which is music, perfume, refelction pools and a house of cards. To me there is much reverberence in the last line of the first stanza: "....trumpeting of yesterday's echoes" because you've used 'praise' being perhaps delusional. It is so. This is a wonderous way to express our playing over and over the recordings of our favorite 'pasts' (past anythings). "bringing aloneness begging for forgiveness" is terrific, producing for me the thought that being 'alone' is not always being 'lonely'; and the "now of yesterday" is truthfully a refreshing expression of past being part of now. I like that you have attributed 'romance' to not only relationship of any kind, but of situation of being with the living energy in all its forms. "...undiscovered self-perpetuating enigma" is the cherry on top. ~~ Diana

What is romance but the rapid beating of the heart and of the drum, deep in the lyrical thoughts of the imagination, since before history when we could not write those thoughts down, but had them, nonetheless.

It's a beautiful thing when one discovers the beauty of poetry, and on so many levels.

This is the kind of poem you have to read a number of times to catch its entire meaning, and then we can never know for sure. Great, great pros. From my prospective, your lines: romance is life & symphony of living really say it all.

You give romance a good play.
