Closed Eyes

Eyes so wide
the remembered regard
but few hours past
spinning their magic web
darting to and from
my furrowed brow
questioning mouth
tangled hair
patient senses

How active
your closed portals now
anxious pupils
roam about vision-wary galaxies
that place you go
when "goodnights" are finished
when I am left with your lids melded fast
securing their fettered rest
while deep beneath
your resting seekers of light
soil of desert gardens
offer respite and growth
as weeds of lost battles
vie for position

How rhythmic
these sleeping eyes
vision-toned fluttering
an undulating pale cover
like drifting sands of synaptic storms
forging dunes of subconscious discovery

Tomorrow's dawn
soon breaking
inviting still further
clouds and gales
abated by sun's insistence
even as light's warmth
will once again
take refuge in your heart
while another night's darkness
arouses more blitz chess of the mind
dreamland's game
played somewhere unknown
perhaps far off

Bound by your sight
destined for that nowhere
yet everywhere
musings of trust
usher me to where my ever wakeful heart
abides and awaits your night-journey's end
the opening of your eyes
the waking whispers
that open mine
