Searingly Frigid

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

It might be argued that the simplest appreciations are past neglect now. Endangered might be the better word.

Searingly Frigid

How scorching the denial
The rose left unpicked
The scent of rejection's plea
Left behind by avarice's boot and heal

The sound of reality's rocky brook
A quadrille of joy waiting to be heard
Ignored by ambition's blind ignorance
Smothering a modesty
Once willing to
Just be

Conquering mountainous goals
Drive unbridled ambition ever skyward
While warmth of valleys below
Beckon to embrace simplicity
Allow weeds knowing no better
To conjoin the continuum
Where nurtured harvests
Remain its honorarium

To the naked eye

Innocence
Once synonymous with nature's gift
Has become a rising furl of cold
From where a child of wonder once stood
Now lays waste to a dangerous void
A searingly frigid conscience
Void of modesty
A dry ice creation
That must exist enclosed
To realize
To know
What it's become

Stunning bookends, beginning with the scorching denial of an unpicked rose, smothering modesty......ending with void of modesty and beyond-frozen's dry ice conscience enclosed, realizing what it's become. This rings with appreciation and awareness and the lack thereof. A topic close to my heart. ~~ Diana

This is a masterpiece, Odin, so visceral and sharp!

I believe you are writing about how cold hard cash is destroying the warmth of natural growth. But I could be wrong…

Innocence
Once synonymous with nature's gift
Has become a rising furl of cold

Quite powerful, my friend.
