Gravitas of Tears Hitching Rides

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

After a few weeks of intense reverie, respite remains hidden in the shadows. I often wonder why the aha seems so elusive.

Gravitas of Tears Hitching Rides

Are we but tears hitching rides
In the ever-evaporating dissolves of the past?
Do tears come as a result of pain?
Or does pain come as a result of tears
Retching themselves from the dark caches of repression?

Oh, to brush the back of one's hand
Across the cheek of reflective honesty
Remove the tears of sadness forever
To see the glow of trenchant moisture
Glisten the eyes with joy.
To hear laughter begetting the peaceful arc of rainbows
Upon the bridge to solace and reform.

Perhaps our expectations are forever doomed
To drown beneath the weeping of yesterday.
Or might there be something we are bent on turning away from?
The quantitative question dominates our existence, it seems.
But is there not another pattern to our reality?

To clench the gravitas of honesty,
Where tears are but transparent bliss
For the revealing
To be
To act
To become.

For life is but an honorarium
Temporary and qualitative
Seeking an essence that better explains
Our choices
Our regrets
Our reform
The metronome of life

While

From  precipice hanging
The tear stares back at me.
So many years of waiting.
Might this be the defining moment?

If but to search life's swollen river for an eddy swirled with tears is but to dam its salty deluge to tap the power of our fears, then autumn rains may thunder down to beckon tributaries deep, but penchants for mere platitudes or hollow praise yet lower sleep, and on the shores of memory where peace lies sleeping soft and slow, her breathe upon our pallid eyes yet wakes our thoughts to rise and go. Yes, now we know our tears are toys to tease us out of reverie, to wake our love and hatred up from where it lay in pomp and show. For what appears is yet to be revealed for all it can't become, and unseen realms in current caught will yet reach our sea one day, defying our defining moment by meaning more than we can say.

Perhaps our expectations are forever doomed
To drown beneath the weeping of yesterday.

Yet one more reason to move forward, not back.

A very well-penned stream of poetic consciousness. With such original phrasing! A masterful work of art, Odin. Thanks.

Filters are mandatory in any flow of water offered for human consumption. At regular intervals they need to be removed and cleaned so the flow remains pure and unihibited. Much the same for artistic types. There is so much subtext in this I don't know how to address it. A marvelous and poignant insight, Odinkentsan. Keep pressing forward in all faith believing. Thankyou for sharing this. r

It seems the older I get tears seem to fall more freely...for a moment or two, then on I go.

You have chosen and placed your words with care, well done.
Cheers,
Dan

It does seem strange, but I am happiest when I find myself tearful because of a beautiful poem that reaches down into my soul, or a movie that often is not a mainstream big hit making lots of money, but is poignant to the point that I cried. I rarely cry in sorrow for I know that pain is what we are all heir to and death is a natural consequence regardless when it happens. I do cry in happiness and shed tears of joy for being so touched.
