Confluent Madness

Hate and love
Locked in mortal combat

Crossing of swords continue
Amidst a tempest rising
Where minds and hearts clash
Ignoring their innate bond

Heavy storms of distorted wishes
Churn and roil
Their power struggle determined to erode
Any resistance

Children look on
Their eyes willed shut
Their ears closed to the madness
Their trembling bodies seeking repose

While adults imitating their offspring
Continue wanting
Taking
Acting
As if right and wrong are unknown
As if doing what they ought is somehow foreign

Away
Far away
Possible realms of peace watch
Expressing neither laughter nor contempt
To vibrate their appetites
Only pity for our sentient failure

Ironically close however
Oh so very close
Our scurrying ancestry
Peer through the shadows
Of evolution's descending boots

Their antennae picking up once again
Man's delusional habit
That lesser existence can be permanently crushed
As well

So much known
So little learned

Much here from realms of silver and gold... "sentient failure" may be bought, may be sold... for mercantile dreams push us, pull us toward that sentient failure, a life lived by the sword... to die, perchance to dream, ah there indeed is the rub... so much known, so little learned... our toes perpetually stubbed... reminds me a little of the old adage lost: the more we learn the less we know... from now to then, nowhere left to go; but at my back I always hear time's winged chariot drawing near... "of evolution's descending boots"... progeny begats philology in an endless cascade of tomfoolery... this one's another little gem... ahem, ahem, ahem....

Thanks for you scintillating review of my recent sonnet, by the way... you really know how to wend your way around a wordsmith critique, my friend... hard to beat that winsome way you've got!

Peace always,
Roger

A finer argument against war I have not seen. Even children see the fallacy of war, but still get caught up in it when they become, “mature.”

While adults Continue
Wanting
Taking
Acting
As if right and wrong are unknown,
As if doing what they ought is somehow foreign.

I very sadly witness this more and more these days, by both adults and by their children. And I very sadly believe that this Modern Day Mantra will only get worse.
