Razor Sharp Creases

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Trying to stay abreast of the daily global experience, one might ask: How delusional is our species capable of becoming? How far can we fall?

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

Razor Sharp Creases

How attentive our focus
on being right
negating errors
oblivious of the lessons awaiting

Smilingly

We persuade those without need
praise to realize agendas
offer affections to mask
our own pain

Fearfully

We horde the bounty
while others live beside dumpster survival
hide our secrets lest they betray our cowardice

Carefully

We prepare our person
perfume our pores of guilt
parade our costume aglow
present our razor sharp creases

Unknowingly

We walk into the insipid pool of calm
assuming impunity
even as the knowing torrents beneath our feet
prepare the vortex for darkened conscience

Eyes seal shut

As we flail helplessly
at our own making
a species in free fall
overcome by hubris
satiated with waste
knowing not the obvious

The third stanza stuck out to me too. Except my take a little different. I see this country as by far the most generous in donations and volunteering in the world over; not just local communities. With that being said, sometimes neighbors are overlooked for the most prestigous need of the moment. ~ Morgan

Quite powerful, and quite sad, especially:

We horde the bounty
while others live beside dumpster survival
hide our secrets, lest they betray our cowardice

Yes… Yes… Yes. We are a vain, greedy lot. Spouting religious good deeds while we hoard the world resources to our chests like it was our God given right to have them because we are superior to those feeding at the dumpsters and scraping existence from overfished lakes and streams, worn-out soils and emaciated forests.

What kind of humanity is that? Our humanity toward our fellow human beings.

Hi Odin, "We walk into the insipid pool of calm" I felt like the stanza which begins with that line should be the lead in to this poem. It has such a strong feeling of "beginning" for me. But your way works as well and the message is mighty appropriate for this November 6th. Well done as always. Still feeling my way around this site and have made some nice discoveries. Thank you again.
