Mind's Asphyxiation

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With BP's settlement, memories come rushing back, exacerbated by the "other" wars of different weaponry in Israel, Gaza, Syria, et al. The solution to wars of conquest, or wars of greed, and any future attempts to fool and conquer Nature is “respect.” The delusions of some of our solipsistic world makes that problematic.

Mind's Asphyxiation

The mind lives a lonely survival
battered by insistence from
eyes
ears
touchy
feely hands
demanding attention
seducing our sentient genius
to ignore logic
to sleep through reason
to die of ignorance

For what?

A grasp of the brass ring
astride our brass-poled steed
awhirl in dizzying material conquest
centered in our park of parks
adrift from cultural boundaries
a calliope accompanied fantasy
flexing "I wanna be"
against "I am"

The mind decries this isolated existence
toiling as it does to stay afloat
amidst this ocean of breached trust
once endowed by birth
now leached away by narcissistic suffocation
disguised at times by success
of conquest's intoxication
rewarded with prurient favors complicit

The temporariness of it all
assumption that Nature's bliss
can be disrespected
harnessed
captured
owned

The pleadings of logic
are the softly stringed melodies
the palpable preludes
heard by few
ignored by many

Until

The roar of rationality's percussion
sends waves of torrential attention
cascading across
the now barren plateau
where another sense of lonely
floats without sundial
moon
or moral sextant

Conscience desires once again
to quake us from our shackled
lucid nightmare of arrogance

One can only hope
Man can awaken
before all Life suffocates

For the conscious
it is indeed
a lonely survival

My hope springs eternal that we will muddle through. When faced with a crisis, we usually act in the appropriate way when we are very close to the edge of the cliff. The concern has always been an escalation into anarchy. As long as we overpopulate, the tension will grow, and the opportunity for mistakes will increase. The Arab/Israeli conflict over a very small piece of land is a microcosm for the world at large. How we solve that situation will be a precursor to how we solve everything.

Once again, I am in awe of your genius, your ability to distill a wide range of emotions and logic into a few words that reveal a depth of understanding far beyond your years. This one I understood. You are light years beyond the brutes and thugs of this world.
