Pain's Paradox
by Odin Roark

Like Banyan trees of another kind
Fathers beget sons beget fathers
Nature's duality of passage
Fraternal roots reaching skyward
Winged youth spreading birth downward

Through darkness imbued by maternal tears
Amidst light sometimes never seen
Foretelling comfort of aging limbs
Reason survives

What breath we share
What honesty Mistake's compost provides
Even as recycling pain
Carves indelible etchings
Worn as scars indelible

Ever mindful
Survival reminds us
Wisdom's lessons are earned
Not given

Just as the visage of the Banyan tree gives a sense of 'reaching,' so do these words. I love "What breath we share," for the entanglement that presents. "Fraternal roots reaching skyward/Winged youth spreading birth downward" - - - "....light sometimes never seen": . . . enmeshing and eternal. I feel the soar in these lines. ~~ Diana
