Stand Walk

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

As that reflective time of year approaches, some are reminded that there is an indefinable transcendence to existence. Some pursue it. Some ignore it. Some know It.

Stand Walk
by Odin Roark

It rises
Even as feet feel not
The groundswell

It knows

And It thinks to escape
Ahead of time
Where shadows advance
With fitful irregularity
Forging fearful signs
Some lurking in the fog
Others brazenly blocking light

Stay aware

For even as feet sense not
And shadows know only to hide
Rats and giants
Stalking beneath
Bird and branch
Morphing into reality at will
Satiating appetites' demand
Caring not that reason exists

Still

It continues to rise
Steadying against shadowed walls
Prepared
Determined
For It understands
Even as It sometimes limps
The journey remains
Its quest for light sans shadows

It
Defined by Its survival
Water
Fire
Bone
Weapon
Tool
Man
Remains the Is of belief

Stand walk

For to sit
To recline
To succumb
Is some other's nature

Stand Walk - the best advice that I've heard in a long time - especially these days.

Yes, it is certain is it not that to stand, and remain standing, while others around you prostrate themselves to this or that clearly conceived god / icon / idol for some inconceivably unclear purposeful reason so unreasonably advocated or articluated by any number of media moguls is to take a stand that, while at times unpopular and insupportable, remains nonethess something worth walking any number of miles in any number of worthy people's shoes just for the empathic flow of understanding that leads to what "remains [of] the Is of belief". Not that that is is teleological or predestined or part of some divine ultimate plan, and not that it might well be at that, but just because it is, and we are, and we always will be able to stand walking or walk standing. This poem is a bit of a tell for "teleology" though, because is is is forever, isn't it?

Odin, this piece is quite evocative of Diogenes and Alexander perhaps with a minor variation, but still correlates to Diogenes reply "stand out of my light," the Greek philosopher of Sinope, when Alexander the Great came to visit and Alexander wanted to fulfill a wish for Diogenes. Alexander was so struck by Diogenes answer that he replied, "But truly, if I were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes." Interpretation by others, that be the cowards regard such people as enemies. So, the subject matter 'Stand Walk,' perhaps embellished with "stand a little out of my sun." You do shine bright, poet. A lengthy, professional review expounded on this writer's work is deserving of this poetry. Thank you.
