After reading Diana Legan's blog today and comparing our work plight to that of our recent ancestors, e.g., '30s and '40s Chicago and New York, I was left thinking: How many of us know of real survival?

Weathering Currents
A Matter of time
From birth
We ebb and tide
From embryo
To a purge upon
The rocks
Of reality
We're held high
Slapped
Smiled at
Life is alive
Then
Cuddled
Pampered
Protected
Educated
Extricated from the family
Exonerated of past mistakes
Cast to the winds
Then
And only then
The real weathering
Of currents begin
How challenging
This thrust into foreign waters
The inevitable coming of age
At many an age
The "Holy shit" of awakening
Under water
Gasping for air
Not knowing wisdom awaits
The catharsis of our superficial struggle
To be denied such
Is to not know of infinite breath
