Omnipresent Muse

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

For those in a large city, imagination can seem over challenged at times. I found in my city experience that creation's moment resides everywhere and nowhere.

Omnipresent Muse

Upon what sensory will it first arrive
within what darkness
upon what gust of street
around what turn of corner
will this enigmatic hush
smile a whisper upon its precious cargo

This otherness most never see
lingering aloof
yet available
even as its undertone of billowing ether
rises from grating and man hole cover
few
if any
see but a fog
rather than a waft of vision's wake

Many wander famished
seeing not night's splendor
but a dissolve-in-waiting
aware only of this and that
seeing the white of absence
through vacuous eyes of a blunted mind
snagged on the barb misnamed success
missing the effervescence ready to rise

What sadness
these persons void of eyes that hear
ears that see
breath that breathes
living but to work for money's deposit
Flying Miles and Bonus Points

Sunrise comes
windows flare with light made conscious
awakening some who seek tomorrow's ghosts
enveloping others who see the joyful muse
their hunger no longer at risk
yesterday's flameless heat
forever ignited

You are right, while millions go about their mundane money chasing lives, a few take in the city and all that it offers. Like you, they delight in the ever-changing dramas and vistas presented.

I don't know about books and plays, but from my view of movies, more movies have been made in and about New York City than any other place on earth. That says something about the magic of the Big Apple. I've only been there three times, twice driving with a sea of Yellow cabs. Would have liked to have had breakfast at Tiffany's.

you call it 'enigmatic hush'
i don't think it can be said better;
we are lost in these unnatural spaces
and clusters and yet we know them
or think we know them as places
of achievement and success..and we want them;
the final stanza is demanding both
intellectually and emotionally

always great, Odin

What sadness

breath that breathes

What sadness indeed, for so many these days.

One can imagine many things walking the city streets but never mention them to a soul.
