Reworking the original posting, the following question took on ponderous proportions. For free spirits, why is reality such a predator?

Awakening To Dreams
Fissured fields of dust
cloud distant horizons
where mind's design
continues evolving
like molten lava at ocean's edge
needing ebb and flow
to eventuate density
Yet
change continues
fractures
invite the light
flowered growth
confronts the wind
seedlings ride currents
spurring imagination
The Galileos of candle-lit discovery
The Wyeths schooled in wheat-field sunsets
all know this awakening to dreams
Visions for some
nourishment for others
elucidation for many
Through it all
Choice
one's conscious defender
remains at the threshold
ready to ignite the flame
rekindle the heat
Some will step beyond delusion's mirage
obviating reality's undulating terrain
knowing to grant thirst its reward
one must embrace the dreams
certain others refuse to see
budd
On the other hand, people like me, love to explore places, people, ideas, and more. I find the real world so full of wonder and excitement that I find those trapped in fantasy (rooting for their favorite sports team) to be deluded and puppets of the system. When I write fiction, new ideas pop into my mind all the time that are possibilities and not mere fantasy, based on reality and a healthy sense of where we are headed.
Excellent food for thought like your poems generally are.
