Inner-Nest

With so many around us giving up, one wonders what’s missing…really?

Poem Artwork
Inner-Nest
by Odin Roark

Laced with greens of life
Browns of acquiescence
Remnants past gather
Lightness of feather-floats

Risk blooms
Chance affords
New life reveals
Light of another kind

Such is the gathering
A journey to find security
Hopefully high above the chaos
Whether of mind
Heart
Or physical reality

So tenuous we build
Like our ancestral evolution
We hesitate to think permanence
Nests providing but temporary solace
From nature’s unpredictability
Wrath its attention-getter

But

We hesitate not
Taking flight
Searching one’s complement
Even mating with self at times
Loneliness begets
Family begets
Numbers beget…
More numbers

Until

Look up
Evolution remains soaring
Holding true as updrafts of momentary safety
Ready tomorrow’s adventure
Even as threats abound
Warmth’s distant hope reaching
Perhaps not yet in sight

Which to chance?

The nest knows well what it is
It waits to be built
To be revisited
To transcend avoidance

For truth be told
One’s nest is but extension
One’s custom fashioned womb
Once removed perhaps
But never mistaken for emptiness
Self-abandonment assures

Wonderful analogy! Instinct, evolution, tradition, and legacy interwoven into a singular place of safety, of refuge, of possibilities. I wait for the herons to nest in the big oak trees outside my window each spring. One year they did not return. I wondered why. Perhaps the weather was too unsettling, perhaps they knew of the hawk that had taken up residence in the neighborhood. Never knew the reason. But, like clockwork when all was right with their world, once again they appeared. Such is the glue of nature! M.True

As a cumulative assemblage of past experience, one's nest is never far from one's heart; indeed, one might argue that one's heart is truly one's nest... and where the nest is, there lies the egg... artfully ascertained no matter what state you've 'evolved' to find yourself in, the egg of another state lies just beneath in the nest you've assembled for yourself... there is little else need be said, save to soar beyond nests into the sky of society that leads beyond the atmosphere of the world into the universe or multi-verse of true life that lies beyond this pale vale of fears... and if that is self-abandonment, then it is also total immersion...

I have been watching House Hunters and Property Virgins with great interest. It seems that it is very trendy to feather our nests with the latest fad rather than think about basic housing. We must have granite countertops, hardwood floors, spa tubs with accompanying tile shower stalls and backslashes, upscale vanities and faucets, stainless steel appliances, gas or induction stoves as we turn our little noses up at what was vogue, just ten years earlier. What sniveling little people we are as we dirty our nest and expect someone else (God?) to clean up after us. Ending rant…

Beautifully written thought provoking and one of my favorites of yours . It always feels like there is a reason to give up. The world has been at its darkest hour many a time. Maybe some are lucky with the wind at there back sailing towards the sun.
