Unfortunately,this holiday season is going to be very bleak for those continuing to suffer job loss or the running out of their unemployment benefits. Let's hope some "job creating" congressmen take a long look in the mirror. (Ain't that a joke?) And let's also hope that "stuffing" and "stuff" or lack of, will forge some inner gifts of love for yet another hate contaminated period of this country's history. Maybe the cynic in me is suffering from too much meditation on reality, but... well, you be the judge.

Thanksgiving Versus Thankstaking

In the left corner
Thankstaking
Weighing in at a
Portly indulgence of
Gross lies and veiled sleight-of-hand judgments
With the advantage reach of too many terms at the head of the table
Forever obliging friends and family to skirt the real nourishment
And occupy but the perimeter seats of obfuscated survival scraps
In the right corner
Thanksgiving
Tipping the scales of history lost
With a mere modicum of weighted appreciation
Trying as it might to stare down its worthy opponent
It nevertheless stands tall for the feast of the fittest
Knowing that only with tempered rumination of words and avoidance of gristled ear
Can it win back the hearts of the diet-wary gluttons
And the indecisive ringside hopefuls
The winner of this dichotomy of give and take
Will meet the all-time wonder of the iconic nemeses
Jolly Red Giant
Arriving within a month by the mere twinkling of an eye
With yet even more to take than to give
Oh, the excitement of it all
Gobble gobble do and ring a ding ding

On the other hand there are those who are simply lazy. You find them in every family and every workplace. They never give, or, if forced to, give very little. But they are very good at taking, and take all they can whenever they can. I have seen people with good incomes come to a Thanksgiving dinner and eat their fill like gluttons without ever paying or working for any of it, and then taking home as many leftovers as they can get their hands on so they don't have to cook or go to restaurants for the rest of the week.
In the meantime, those unemployed you are speaking of, are losing their houses, their cars, and are unable to feed themselves and their families… Even with unemployment and food stamps, dwindling as I write.
There is certainly something wrong with this picture. We are certainly not all created equal, but we should share what we have with some equality in mind.

They'll be looking in the mirror all right - making sure their expensive, tailored suits look good for the cameras - while they babble on endlessly about nothing, and do nothing at all to make this nation a better place for its down and out citizens.
