“I do”
by Odin Roark
Unlike the sea anemone
Occasionally attached to the back of a crab
Such being a mutual agreement
“Just along for the ride”
People bonding today
Challenge the word
Bringing new meaning
To the relation-ship
Some set sail on smooth waters
While most eventually find one perfect storm
After another
And
Like the sea anemone
The coup de grâce
Comes without warning
Usually synchronous
With the furtive look
Of a challenger
Offering new transport
After all
Today
Male and female coupling
Marriage license
Or not
Means journeying together
Until the floor of travel
Becomes gravelly
Becomes rutted
Becomes muddy
And…
Well…
Difficult
Something might have been wrong
With one’s picture in the beginning
But lovers hate admitting that
You know
After all
Insecure humans love the “forever” idea
Right?
The “I do” needs modifying
How about “I’ll try”
Which at least will suggest
Once and for all
Nothing is a blessed-forever
And prove honesty isn’t always
The best policy
Unless…
Oh
Such a Hitchcockian thought
“Life insurance
Anyone?”
Simple psychology suggests that man and woman were made to make children from attraction that is often very opposite and therefore, destructive. Mates who are likely to stick together have the same interests and personality and are therefore, quite boring and likely to produce equally boring offspring.
Such is life, and you are so apt at describing it.
