Virtual Fantasy

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Media’s model of seduction struggles, as virtual reality’s beta testing explodes. See---http://appcity.org/blog. For some of us, the old fashioned way is just fine… extra fine.

Poem Artwork
Virtual Fantasy
by Odin Roark

So innocent they
But three years old
Wanting parent look
Upon their face

First on paper
Crayon scribbles
Then long waits
Yearly Halloween
And make-believe

Come paint-on tats
Just like mommy daddy
On leg
Neck
Heart

Then to legal age innocence
Crow’s feet cover
Cheekbone carving
Botox injections
Steroid Adams
Enhancement Eves

Fast forward

Beneath gender façade
Lurks a swirling cauldron
Marveling in grease slick color
Oil running hot
Engine never cold

To be
Is not to be
Man and woman
Where molten-hardened
Eruptive cycles
So often masked
Addictively rush tomorrow’s reality

Meanwhile
History ever fading
Continues priming expectants
Reminding Barbie doll captives
And GI Joe dreamers
Tomorrow’s headgear fantasy
Comes with warning
Virtual sympathy
Not included

Love the last line! Technology is moving so fast . Core etiquette seems to be lacking. Meaning, common sense is lost.

Eloquently put. I'd refuse my son the latest this, that and play outside in the wild blue yonder.

I find the wee girls pageants rather disturbing.

Huxley was right. Orwell, oh well. Swamped with too many pleasures and distractions to give a fig about the world. Thus, the few, conquer the freedom of the masses.

I've always found it wise, even as a child, not to chase every latest fad. I will admit that I was one of the first to jump on the Macintosh as the way computing should go. However, I just read in Wired that the latest craze that will overtake tattoos and cell phones is wearable tech.

I fully believe it is true, but I love my inner sense of direction, ability to converse face-to-face, although I'm not very good at it, explore nature firsthand rather than via films or pictures, and love to hand write and draw (although I can't do it anymore). I've had no need for cell phones, iPods, or GPS, so I doubt if I will find much of the wearable technology much more than just another fad or phase the youth of our country must go through in order to be considered part of the gang.

On the other hand, if I find that there is a wearable technology that enhances my waning physical properties like better hearing and vision and the way to write like this Dragon Dictate I'm using, I will be the first to buy it.

From birth to dying time we are conditioned to strive for perfection. To be other than self. Mega billions made on diet fads, none of which works very long. Inferiority complexes are tried and true and standing in front of a mirror a way of life.

No Virtual Sympathy, indeed. But I see far less Human Sympathy today as well.
