Solitarian Lessons

A spider cocooning its fresh catch.
Splayed on crucifixes, 3 monkeys
cover eyes, ears and mouth.
Captive in shelter-cage,
a dog lifts heavy eyes.
Its horn removed,
a rhino bleeds.
Wall Street’s opening bell
rung by a tagged bear.
A rat calculating
with an abacus.
Mr. Cockroach as “Thinker,”
sitting before pollution-dense New York.
An ancient tortoise holding 18th hole flag
on empty weed-infested golf course.
Behind a stage…
The Valedictorian
bides what time is left
playing solitaire with
his “Creature Wisdom”
cards.
